The My Week in… series was launched in 2014 in North Norfolk with print editions for Blakeney, Brancaster, Burnhams, Creakes, Thursford and Wells-next-the-Sea.
It's a free weekly event newsletter for holiday cottages, also distributed – due to demand – to B&Bs, pubs with rooms, caravan site info centres etc. We publish 20 weeks a year on high days, holidays and half terms. It is supported by advertising.
The aim of My Week in… print edition is to get holiday cottage guests out and about to local events and venues.
As one cottage owner put it: ‘We love it. It stops our guests counting spoons’.
But we had complaints. Cottage owners, permanent residents or second-home owners, want copies of My Week in… too. But we can’t supply them, for reasons such as: we don’t know when they’ll be home.
Unique about the print edition is that it is only read by holiday cottage guests, which means the advertising is highly targeted.
It’s not so simple online. Anyone can read it.
To maintain that targeting online we’ve ask the viewers to tell us in two clicks what type of reader they are (resident, second-home owner or visitor) and where they are (or where they interested in) so we can give them the most appropriate event information.
You have the chance to talk to potential clients when and where you want. And you can do it cheaply.
We don’t use algorithms, search engines, browser histories.
We use common sense and real people.
